Haunted Majestic Riverboat Paranormal Investigation

The Haunted Majestic is a floating seasonal haunted attraction located on the Ohio River at Majestic Landing near Huntington, West Virginia. Lucky for us, it is haunted by real spirits from the ships past as well! The boat has two floors that cover two inland river barges which are permanently moored side by side. The haunted history dates back more than a century. Originally serving as separate sand dredge barges in 1912 for the Majestic Steamship Line during the Ohio River's canalization, these barges underwent a fascinating transformation.

Despite their practical purpose, eerie occurrences plagued the barges, with reports of ghost sightings and mysterious chants by steamship line employees. By 1928, their dredging duties concluded, and they saw sporadic use until World War II, when they were repurposed as a hospital ship.

During the war, now named the Douglas Lee and Eugene Morris, they served in the English Channel as a military hospital, witnessing the passing of over 300 soldiers. Paranormal investigators have had numerous experiences while onboard the ship.
Post-war, the barges found use in various conflicts, earning the ominous moniker "the ship of death" due to the high casualties. Returned to civilian hands in 1978, they were repurposed multiple times, serving as a restaurant and later as administrative offices for a tour boat company in Cincinnati, Ohio, all while rumors of hauntings persisted.

In 2019, the barges found themselves under new ownership, unbeknownst to their haunted past. Renamed Haunted Majestic, the ship was moored in West Virginia and dedicated to preservation. Despite the eerie history, the current owners, descendants of the World War II veterans for whom the barges were named, see it as a duty to maintain and share their legacy.
