The legendary Blackwood Hotel is well known to be haunted by many in the field and the staff and current owner.
Doors open and close of their own accord. Taps turn on and off. Old-fashioned folk dressed in ruffled shirts and waistcoats loiter about casually on fire boxes.
But rather than be spooked out of town after one-too-many ghostly encounters, Rob the current operator of the pub loves his ghosts and enjoys talking about them.
The pub is 149 years old and it was also an infirmary/morgue and cobb and co stop. There were 13,000 people living in Blackwood when it was a mining town, now there’s 300.
One of the figures haunting Blackwood’s hotel is believed to be Laura Dalton, who tragically died in 1948. She was using a petrol iron in the kitchen when it exploded. The smell of candles burning is often linked to Laura.
But there is a cheeky boy who pokes the kitchen staff and is seen running from room to room.
